At Weglot, you’ll always hear somebody talking about how important the WordPress community is, whether it’s Augustin (co-founder and CEO of Weglot), Rémy (co-founder and CTO of Weglot) or anyone within the Weglot team.
As the Partnerships Manager here at Weglot, a big part of my time is dedicated to providing support to WordCamps/Meetups, meeting with organizers and helping them in any way I can as a sponsor. We care about giving back to the community and helping support the many great events organized by the community.
In this short post, I’ll explain why we support the WordCamp Prague and other WordCamps/Meetups all around the world!
Giving Back
Since the very beginning, the WordPress community has always been at the very heart of Weglot. Actually, we even officially launched Weglot at WordCamp Paris in 2016. During this event, we met the French WordPress community for the first time. We had the chance to meet great people, receive helpful advice and feedback, and most of all, a warm welcome from all of the community. It’s when we realized how beneficial being part of a community like WordPress is.
On the other hand, the success of WordPress (which now accounts for more than 33% of the web) would not exist without all the people contributing to it. Contributions are made at many different levels, by coding, by organizing WordPress events, by translating, and I’m sure I’m forgetting many other ways.
All those great people regularly meet with each other to exchange and discuss creative ideas during events such as WordCamps and Meetups. They’re all organized by volunteers who work in their free time to make these events awesome! Yes, I’m talking about “volunteers”, if you’re not used to the WordPress ecosystem, WordCamp organizers are actually working for free out of their genuine passion for the community.
So for Weglot, supporting such events is a great way to give back to people and the community.
It’s also a good way to make sure the WordPress community will have the resources to keep growing and keep making WordPress the great and successful platform it is.
So as soon as we heard about the WordCamp Prague, we got in touch with Adam and offered our support.
The “WordPress Community Interviews”
After supporting several WordPress events, we decided we wanted to offer more than just monetary support. We wanted to get to know the local community players on a more personal level. And that’s how we came up with the idea of the WordPress community interview series on our blog.
Our aim was to give a voice to the WordCamp organizers, so they could share their stories. It was also a great way to let our blog audience know more about the communities they work in and get a more inside view from people with insight about WordPress communities (at least that’s what we’re trying to do).
We also see it as a great way to create connections between WordPress people from various regions of the world. It’s interesting to see how the same challenge can be shared by many communities and on the other hand, how some communities have very specific challenges, such as being more inclusive for example.
Increase our Visibility and Get Feedback
The last reason is a more classic one, but it’s important for businesses like ours: to be more visible to potential Weglot users and let them know about our translation solution.
WordCamps and Meetups offer the perfect place to get to know WordPress users. By sponsoring these events, we get the chance to communicate with people who might be interested in using our translation solution and to meet with potential partners.
Additionally, it’s also a great way to collect feedback from people with multiple backgrounds: developers, freelancers, web agencies and WordPress beginners who are willing to have a chat with us or who have already tested Weglot.
Wrapping Up
Sponsoring WordCamps and Meetups has always been a matter of giving back first. On top of that, it’s also the perfect place to meet people that might have a direct interest in what we at Weglot offer – making website translation simple.
