What was your motivation to become a speaker at WordCamp Prague 2020?

With my family I was planning to visit Prague during winter. I saw WordCamp taking place at the same time. So why not combine it? It will be a good time to meet new community and  talk about WordPress.

What will be your talk about? Who can benefit the most from your session?

Security in WordPress, disproving the myths about this CMS. The talk is for everybody, not only for WordPress users. I hope that I will be able to show you how easy it is to take care of your own safety and the safety of your own website.

What are a few takeaways that attendees will get from your talk?

Basics of online security.

What are, in your experience, the most common myths and misconceptions regarding WordPress and security?

If WordPress is secure, so why so many sites were hacked? People think that a secure CMS is enough not to be afraid of burglary and forget about maintenance. The biggest security gap are the website owners themselves.

This year, you have implemented a very innovative approach to organizing WordCamp Lodz – two days of the conference but only with a single track. Why did you make this decision, and how satisfied are you with the outcome?

Three days. Contributor day with many workshops and two days with standard conference. A single track is a very common solution. Participants do not have to choose the presentation they want to listen to, and often there were conflicts of choice along many paths. Short and inspiring talks on topics around WordPress have been received very well. Looking at the opinions of the participants and conversations during the conference, it was a very good move.

What is your background? What should our attendees know about you?

For many years, I have been popularizing Open Source in Poland. Over the course of time I started to administer servers and today I run a very cool hosting company. Privately, I am a sailor, a diver, and a learning airplane pilot.

What are you looking forward to WordCamp Prague 2020? Why is that?

Meet new community and maybe think about organizing WordCamp Europe 😉

What would you like to see in the future for WordPress?

Honestly, I have no idea. For me, it is a tool like Linux or web browser. I don’t have any high requirements.

Have you adopted Gutenberg, the Blocks editor? If yes, do you have a favorite use case for it? If not, why?

Yes, I was using Gutenberg when it was a plugin. I just have bad memories of using the block editor. But that was a long time ago when it was in beta. Today it works great and working with it is no different for me than the old way. It works.

For how long have you been using WordPress? And why you’ve chosen WordPress?

Over 10 years or more. Why? I love Open Source software and accidentally found WordPress. I was looking for a replacement for phpnuke. I was running an open-source portal and it’s time to refresh it.

How do you feel about the WordPress community? Did you get involved in it?

A community like any other. I have many friends and acquaintances here.

What is your favorite tool related to WordPress?

Nothing comes to mind. WordPress for me is a good tool.

What makes you smile/happy?

Jack Daniels and sailing 😉
